This book explores some of the misconceptions surrounding provisional patents and plots out a strategy that maximizes the potential of provisional patents for inventors and the business community that works with them to bring great inventions to the market.
It also contains a road map for Universities to help them maximize the potential of the intellectual property that is the lifeblood or all academic research.
The Provisional Patent Fallacy and why its all good news eBook Ric Richardson
I was disappointed in the book it has no depth. It is very short and basically the content could be stated in a one page, the rest is cut and paste.
Although Ric has raised a very important point, unfortunately it has been a bit trivialized in this book.
I agree , many great ideas have never got off the ground because of the complexity and cost of Patenting.
Inventors are often definitely not also skilled in entrepreneurship and hard-nosed business matters. Having sometimes put all their energy and time into an idea, they may be reluctant to expose it, due to fear of criticism of their baby or of losing control. However the exposure is a crucial part of the process. There is no point patenting something which the public views as ridiculous, could be done better or not worth their investment.
Also by trying to do your own patent, you actually learn more about the idea. The dissecting, describing precisely and comprehensively about the idea helps the inventor know exactly what it is that is unique, so that he can focus on maximizing the benefits.
There is a need for a thorough book on this subject, this is not it.

The Provisional Patent Fallacy and why its all good news eBook Ric Richardson Reviews
Ric Richardson provides a constructive, 'can do' perspective on cost-effectively protecting your ideas. Written by an inventor for inventors, it is aimed at providing a "call to arms", drawing from the author's experience as a successful, serial inventor with a number of (effective and valuable) patents to his name.
So if you have a good idea and wonder "where to begin?"... this is a good bet. The book focuses on the provisional patent as a first step and demystifies the process of filing your first 'prov' so that you can protect your idea as simply and cheaply as possible. I also found the references to additional material/books helpful.
